    TABO MONASTERY 

    The Great Dalai Lama expressed his desire to retire to the Tabo monastery, as he says that the Tabo Monastery is one of the holiest monasteries in the world. Tabo monastery is referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas” and is also declared as a World heritage site by  UNESCO. It is situated at 3500 metres above sea level.


    KYE MONASTERY

    In this monastery, hundreds of lamas acquire their religious education. It is also notable for its stunning paintings, thankas, rare manuscripts, stucco figures, and unusual wind instruments, which are used as part of the orchestra when Chham is performed in the gompa   throughout the summer.


    TNAGYUD GOMPA

    This gompa's lamas are said to be tantric practitioners. This is different and a unique monastery that one ought to visit.
     

    KUNGRI GOMPA

    This monastery is the second oldest monastery in Spiti, located near pin valley. Kungri Gompa is a monastery of significant importance and it received a large foreign donation for its renovation.

    DHANKAR

    Dhankar is the official capital of Spiti. This monastery was strategically built. To safe Spiti from the aggression of its neighbors this monastery was built to be alert in case of any attack from neighbors. They used to warn the populace about the attack beforehand so that They could be prepared.The list does not end here. There are many more monasteries which you can explore.
