    How to reach by Flight?

    Meghalaya's only airport is in Umroi, around 35km from Shillong. Numerous Meghalaya tourist often plans to reach this airport and then move to other destinations. Some taxis and buses can take you wherever you need to visit Meghalaya. But if you are reading our blog, then we ensure that you will take the correct way, and this also saves you time.
    Fly to Guwahati in Assam, from where you can steer to Shillong by road. There are a bunch of options for covering the journey between Guwahati to Shillong. Some of them are; you can reserve a taxi, ideally taking INR 2000, to drop you at your hotel or Police Bazar (the central market zone) in Shillong.

    You can also take a shared cab from the airport, which should not cost you more than INR 200. Buses are also available from ISBT, Beltola in Guwahati, and the pilgrimage would take approximately 3 hours.

    There's no train station available in Meghalaya and no railway lines. The nearest one is in Guwahati; it's around 100 km from Shillong and can be used to reach the capital of Meghalaya. The Guwahati station is well combined with all the other cities in India and is often employed as a conduit into the state of Meghalaya too.

    Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) is well-linked to multiple cities within the state and neighboring states. The highway uniting Guwahati to Shillong is NH40, which is well-maintained and effortless to navigate. If you want to go sightseeing, then you can reserve a cab to take you around.
    However, traveling by road in Meghalaya during the monsoons can be a bit challenging because of slick roads; otherwise, this is a perfect way to reach the state.

    Day 01: Sites to Visit In Shillong

    UMIAM LAKE

    Umiam Lake, located 17 km from the city, is picturesque in Shillong. The stability of the waters and the lake's vastness will leave you in awe of its appearance. Adventure sports like Kayaking and water skiing can be opted for, and Water Sports Complex presents water sports between 8 am to 5 pm every week.     WARD'S LAKE

    Ward's Lake is located right in the soul of Shillong. The lake is named after Sir William Ward, who instigated the construction of this man-made water body.     SHILLONG PEAK

    A premium tourist spot in the city, Shillong Peak is located at an altitude of 1965 meters. It shows scenic views of Shillong, and on days the skies are clear, you can even spot the plains of Bangladesh from Shillong Peak.
    The access to Shillong peak is via Airforce Base; hence, you'd be needed to submit ID evidence to move further. The zone could be visited on all days of the week between 9 am to 5 pm.

    ELEPHANT FALLS

    Initially known as 'Ka kshaid lai pateng khohsiew' in Khasi, which means Three Steps Waterfalls, Elephant Waterfalls is a famous tourist spot in Shillong. It is located a short drive from Shillong Peak and 12 km from the metropolis.
    The clear waters fall in three steps, out of which the third step is the most lovely one and is effortlessly accessible for people visiting the waterfall. A walk can get the plunge pool down a staircase.

    • To reach Cherrapunjee by a private cab, lead to Police Bazar.
    • You can also get to Cherrapunjee by a shared alto. You'd find these shared vehicles in Bara Bazar.

    NONKALIKHAI FALLS

    Dwell, Nonkalikhai Falls, is the tallest descent waterfall in India, with a height of 350 meters. The tall waterfall, falling straight from a cliff without a break, is a fantastic sight. From outside the entry gate, you can follow a signboard.

    MAWSMAI CAVES

    Formed out of limestone, Mawsmai Cave is a well-lit cave 6 km away from Cherrapunjee. You can walk up to 150m inside the cave; the rest is not open to visitors.

    ARWAH CAVES

    Arwah cave is one of the hidden amazement in Meghalaya. You must detour from the main road and cover a muddy path to Arwah Caves. There is a lovely bridge that leads you to the entrance of the cave. You'd be greeted by a sharp descent right after you enter the cave, after which your walk will be rather challenging and adventurous, followed by crawling via narrow holes and sharp edges.
