About Nartiang Monoliths

The Nartiang Monoliths in Meghalaya form one of the largest and most impressive collections of monoliths in India. These ancient stone structures are estimated to be around 400–500 years old. These were built during the rule of the Jaintia kings and they represent strength, honour, along with community traditions. The site features both menhirs (standing stones) and dolmens (table-like stones) that are arranged across an open ground thus creating an outdoor historical museum. Local lore says the tallest monolith was erected in memory of a powerful Jaintia warrior. Today, the site stands as a very important cultural landmark and it showcases the  tribal heritage and ancient engineering skills of Meghalaya.
