Jaigarh Fort History

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II constructed the fort in 1726 to protect the Amer fort. It is located 400 metres above the Amer Fort on a hill called Cheel Ka Teela (Hill of Eagles), and it not only acted as a defensive structure but also shows Rajputana power and brilliance in architecture. It never lost a fight and was called the Victory Fort, and reflected the Rajput spirit. It is said to have tunnels which connect it to the Amer Fort so that people can move in times of war. It is a blend of Mughal and Rajput styles. It also has the legendary Jaivana Cannon, which is the largest known wheeled cannon. The way the fort was laid out, the use of water, and the weapons indicate the level of development that had been achieved by Rajput engineering.
