Imagine this - A beautiful park spread across 100 acres of lush green land, that too over a 360 ft hill with panoramic views of the ocean on one side. This is Kailasagiri in Vizag, Visakhapatnam. One of the most beautiful spots in Andhra Pradesh. It gives amazing views of the lush green gardens and the bay of Bengal all at once. One of the most major attractions in Kailasagiri park is the statue of Lord Shiva & Maa Parvati. These are 40 feet tall white marble sculptures and are one of the major highlights of the place. Infact, at the base of Lord Shiva’s statue a stream follows down the hill. This place is not just a park, it’s an experience of dwelling in nature, faith & beauty.

How To Reach Kailasagiri?

  • By Road - After entering Visakhapatnam, head towards Beach Road and follow signs for Kailasagiri. You will easily get app based cabs, buses, taxis and autos to reach Kailasagiri.

  • By Ropeway - To use the ropeway, first travel to Appu Ghar on Beach Road, which is easily accessible from all parts of Visakhapatnam by taxi, auto, or app-based cab. The Kailasagiri ropeway base station is located here, from where cable cars take visitors directly up to Kailasagiri.

  • By Foot - Reach the Kailasagiri foothills via Beach Road near Appu Ghar using a taxi, auto or city bus. You can then climb the pedestrian steps from the foothills to reach Kailasagiri. Remember the climb is long and steep. It is used by trekkers or locals for exercise. 

Best Time To Visit Kailasagiri

The best time to visit Kailasagiri Hill is generally during the winter months of October to March. During this time you will get the best sunsets, gentle winds blowing through the hill and get to enjoy the amazing panoramic views of the Bay of Bengal. You can enjoy the full scenic views and weather of the hilltop if you visit during the winter months. Avoid visiting here during the summers as it tends to get a little hot and in monsoons it tends to get very slippery. You can have the most amazing experience here if you visit during winters.

1. Ropeway Ride

If you have a little adventure in you, and love ropeways, this is the ride of a lifetime. You can reach the Kailasagiri park via ropeway with some mesmerising views. There are cabins installed here that are made of fibreglass windows. You get an amazing bird’s eye view of the whole scenic route. You can see the forest, the whole valley and even the beach. Taking a ropeway ride in Kailasagiri Vizag is highly recommended. The ropeway timings are from 11:00 AM in the morning to 8:00 PM at night. The ropeway cost is Rs 150 for adults and Rs 80 for children.

2. Titanic View

Titanic - A movie that everybody has seen, and the famous titanic pose that everybody with their partner wants to feel. Well, here your dreams might just get fulfilled. Imagine doing that special pose with your special somebody and that at a very special scenic setting. Here a majestic viewpoint that overlooks the bay of Bengal has been constructed in the form of a ship. You will find a lot of couples coming here and posing. 3. Children Play Park

4. Gliding Point 

One of the other interesting Kailasagiri view points is the Gliding point at Kailasagiri. Located at an altitude of 130 metres, the gliding point here is equipped with many excellent gliding facilities. You can get amazing views of Vizag sunset here along the coastline and take amazing wide angle pictures. You might also experience the cool breeze if you are lucky. 5. Floral Clock

Kailasagiri has a lot of interesting things. One of them is a famous floral clock which is apparently one of the largest floral clocks in the country. It has a diameter of ten feet. And the best part? The floral clock is in the backdrop of the Shiva & Parvati statue. It looks amazingly artistic. 6. Shiva Parvati Statue

It is believed that there was Lord Shiva temple at the hilltop.The major attraction in the Kailasagiri is the massive 40 feet statue of Lord Shiva & Maa Parvati. These are made out of white marble and look majestic in the backdrop of the hill top and the waterfalls underneath with a view of the ocean on one side.The place looks more scenic than a painting,  It is definitely one of the most important things to do in Kailasagiri.

Places To Visit Near Kailasagiri

1. Ramakrishna Beach

Ramakrishna Beach is one of the most busy tourist destinations in Visakhapatnam. It is famous for some amazing scenic views and a very beautiful coastline. Located along the Bay of Bengal, it serves as a favourite tourist destination where you can walk, jog and eat along the beach. There are a variety of food stalls available along the coast. This is a place where you can enjoy leisure and nature together. It is roughly just 5 km away from the Railway Station and 7-9 km away from Kailasagri. 

2. INS Kursura Submarine Museum

One of India’s vital weapons in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, the INS Kursura Submarine was decommissioned in 2001. It was then converted into Asia’s first submarine museum. Visiting this place gives you a rare chance to walk inside a real war submarine. It is a massively popular tourist destination located just 5 km away from Kailasagiri. 

3. Yarada Beach

Scenic, clean, relaxing and just mesmerising - that’s Yarada Beach for you. It is considered one of India’s cleanest and most beautiful beaches known for its golden sands, very soothing environment and lush green hills. It is located approximately 20 km away from Kailasagiri which you can complete in a 1 hour drive easily. It is a great place for picnics, relaxation and watching sunsets. 

4. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park

The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is located just 6 km away from Kailasagiri. One of the largest zoological parts in Andhra Pradesh, it is spread across a massive 625 acres and is home to more than 80 animal species. The entry fee is Rs 70 for adults and Rs 30 for children. It is home to some amazing species of animals, birds and reptiles. It is filled with greenery and children love the experience of visiting here even more.

Kailasagiri Travel Tips 

  • Visit either early during the morning or late in the afternoon if you want to avoid too much crowd.

  • Wear light and comfortable shoes as there’s a lot of walking that you will have to do.

  • You should definitely try the ropeway for a great scenic experience but check the weather first.

  • Carry a light jacket if you are visiting during the winter months or during the evenings.

  • If you are travelling with kids, carry some light snacks and water.
