The famous Dona Paula story tells about Dona Paula de Menezes, the daughter of a Portuguese Viceroy, falling in love with a local fisherman. Their love was not accepted, and the tragic end of this romance gave the place its name as a symbol of love and sacrifice. Yet, the other historical version credits to Dona Paula Amaral Antónia de Souto Maior, an 18th-century philanthropist from a noble family, whom the villagers named the place in her honour.

The nearest Railway station to Dona Paula is Karmali Railway Station, but the best station connected from major cities in India is the Madgaon Railway Station. One can also easily drive to the place as it is well connected by road from Panaji. Local buses, taxis, auto-rickshaws, rental bikes, and self-drive cars are commonly used, allowing visitors to reach Dona Paula Beach comfortably and without hassle.

1. Dona Paula Statue

The Dona Paula Statue is a famous landmark of the Dona Paula Beach, which is also known as the Image of India. It is situated at a popular viewpoint named Dona Paula Jetty, facing the sea, and symbolises the cultural identity of India. 2. Panjim
