The Arunachal Pradesh government has launched a new tourism policy and brand identity to make the state one of the top travel destinations. The policy was introduced by tourism minister Pasang Dorjee Sona in New Delhi, during a conference.
The new policy focuses on "experiential tourism", offering visitors various things to do, such as farm stays, adventure sports activities, wellbeing retreats, and tribal experiences. It also highlights ecotourism and the border tourism to give travellers a unique experience.
According to officials, this initiative's objective is to maintain the kingdom's natural beauty and cultural heritage while creating job opportunities for locals. The government of India plans to double domestic tourist numbers and increase foreign visitors tenfold.
In 2023, foreign tourist visits rose by 300% to 4,496, and domestic visits rose by 369% to over 1 million in 2022. To support this growth in future, the authorities will take an initiative to improve infrastructure and train local people by taking help from institutions like IITTM and IHM. A special facilitation cell will be installed to assist investors, and land banks may be created for tourism projects.
The policy is a part of Arunachal Pradesh’s efforts to develop sustainable tourism and to attract both domestic and international travellers.
