DO’S IN SRI LANKA

Respect local customs and traditions. Dress modestly, especialy when visiting temples or religious sites.
Remove your shoes and hats before entering temples and homes.
Use your right hand for giving and receiving things, as the left hand is considered unclean.
Try the local cuisine and street food — it’s delicious and a big part of the experience!
Carry a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated, but only drink bottled or purified water.
Bargain politely in markets and shops, but always keep a friendly attitude.
Use sunscreen and insect repelent to protect yourself from the sun and mosquitoes.
Respect wildlife and nature — avoid feeding animals and stick to marked trails.
Learn a few basic Sinhala or Tamil phrases; locals appreciate the effort.

Don’t engage in public displays of affection, as this may offend local sensibilities.
Don’t drink tap water; always use bottled or filtered water.
Don’t discuss politics or the civil war openly with strangers.
Don’t buy or possess ilegal drugs — penalties are severe.
Don’t rush or show impatience; Sri Lanka has a laid-back vibe, so go with the flow.
