Mukteshwar is a village and tourist destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. It sits high in the Kumaon Hills at an altitude of 2171[1] meters (7500 feet), 51 km from Nainital, 72 km from Haldwani, and 343 km from Delhi.
Nainital (IPA: [nɛːniːtaːl] (About this soundlisten)) is a popular hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the judicial capital of Uttarakhand, the High Court of the state being located there, and is the headquarters of the Kumaon division as well as an eponymous district. It also houses the Governor of Uttarakhand,[3] who resides in the Raj Bhavan. Nainital was the summer capital[4] of the United Provinces.
Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in Almora district[1] in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the home for the Military Hospital, Kumaon Regiment[2] (KRC) and Naga Regiment and is maintained by the Indian Army. Ranikhet is at an altitude of 1,869 metres (6,132 ft) above sea level and within sight of the western peaks of the Himalayas. Ranikhet is a Class IV town with a civic status of a Cantonment board.
Jim Corbett was born of British ancestry in the town of Nainital in the Kumaon of the Himalaya (now in the Indian state of Uttarakhand). He grew up in a large family of sixteen children and was the eighth child of Christopher William Corbett and his wife Mary Jane (née Prussia) who had previously married Dr Charles James Doyle of Agra, who died at Etawah in 1857.[1] His parents had moved to Nainital in 1862, after Christopher Corbett had quit military service and been appointed the town's postmaster.[2] In winters the family used to move to the foothills, where they owned a cottage named "Arundel" in the village now known as Kaladhungi.
